About GPA Calculator

A free GPA tool that runs in your browser and keeps your grades on your device

What this site is

GPA Calculator is a free tool for working out grade point averages. It started in January 2024 as a Chinese-language calculator built for university students in China, and this English section extends the same tools and guides to students working on the 4.0 scale and to anyone converting grades from another system.

The premise is simple: GPA arithmetic is not difficult, but it is tedious and easy to get wrong — particularly the credit weighting, which is where most manual mistakes happen. A calculator that gets it right, plus documentation explaining what the number means, covers almost everything students actually need.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser. There is no account, no server-side calculation and no grade data leaving your device:

Who maintains it

The site was created by LI JIANLIN in January 2024, a computer science graduate who found GPA calculation tedious enough as a student to build a tool for it. The team now includes members with backgrounds in computer science, education and statistics. Operations are based in Guangzhou, China, with team members in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Where the data comes from

The conversion tables on this site are compiled from published institutional grading scales, official academic regulations, and corrections sent in by users. They are reviewed and updated periodically. Conversion between grading systems is inherently approximate — different institutions and credential services read the same transcript differently — so the tables are presented as guidance rather than authority, and the pages say so where the uncertainty is largest.

If you spot an error, tell us. Corrections with a link to the institution's own published rules are verified and applied, usually within a few working days.

Advertising and funding

The site has integrated Google AdSense to stay free. Advertising cookies may be set; see the privacy policy for details. The publisher ID is recorded in ads.txt.

Limitations you should know about

Results from this calculator are for reference. Institutional rules differ on retakes, pass/fail courses, transfer credit and rounding, and for anything official — graduate applications, scholarship submissions, transcript disputes — the GPA issued by your registrar is the figure that counts. Where our result and theirs disagree, theirs is correct.
